Jim Hotaling

Jim Hotaling, MD, MS, FECSM leads the Utah Venture Hub team as Associate Vice President for Research Innovation and Translation at the University of Utah, where he bridges the worlds of academic innovation and entrepreneurship. A distinguished physician-entrepreneur, Jim brings unique insights to translating academic research into marketable solutions, having successfully founded four startups, including Paterna Biosciences, where he serves as Chief Medical Officer.

As the Intermountain West's leading expert in male fertility and men's health, Jim combines clinical excellence with entrepreneurial acumen. His distinguished medical background includes training at Dartmouth, Duke, and the University of Washington, and he holds the rare distinction of being one of few American physicians certified as a Fellow of the European College of Sexual Medicine. With over 85 published research papers and NIH funding for groundbreaking studies, Jim's commitment to innovation extends beyond his clinical practice.

At the Utah Venture Hub, he leverages this extensive experience to foster a dynamic ecosystem where researchers and entrepreneurs collaborate to transform promising innovations into viable commercial ventures.
