UofU Spinout Fabric Genomics was acquired by GeneDx for $33 million in May 2025, combining forces to expand rapid genetic testing and newborn screening programs nationwide.

Fabric Genomics is a leading biotech company that integrates AI into a cloud-based platform to unlock insights from genomic data into a deliverable, real-time clinical interpretation. By automating traditionally labor-intensive genome analysis, Fabric Genomics reduces both turnaround time and cost. Ultimately, making advanced genetic testing more scalable and accessible to patients around the world.

The company's technology supports a wide range of clinical applications, including hereditary disease and rare diseases diagnostics, rapid NICU testing, and pediatric panels. In high-stakes settings, where rapid diagnoses can be the difference between life and death, they can enable whole-genome sequencing at unprecedented speed, helping clinicians quickly pinpoint rare genetic conditions and deliver timely interventions for the critically ill.

Now, Fabric Genomics has reached a major milestone: a $33 million acquisition by GeneDx. This acquisition is more than a financial success, it's a strategic step toward broadening access to AI-powered genomic diagnostics at both national and global levels.

Through this partnership, the combined companies aim to accelerate Genomic Newborn Screening (gNBS) programs across the U.S. and beyond. The collaboration will support state and federal public health efforts to bring genomic screening to more families, helping ensure that every newborn, regardless of location, has access to life-saving genomic insights.
