Innovation Summit

Join us for the University of Utah’s Innovation Summit and engage with fellow innovators at the U. The summit will include a town hall on the state of tech transfer at the U, panels from successful entrepreneurs and introductions to the University of Utah Ventures, Powered by EPIC, and campus accelerators. The summit will be followed by our signature networking event, Tech Tuesday.

9-9:45 — TLO Town Hall

Chief Innovation Officer Bruce Hunter  will provide an overview of current Technology Licensing Office activities, outreach efforts, updates on metrics and other efforts from TLO followed by discussion and Q&A.  

9:45-10 — Networking break

10-11:15 — Venture Investment Panel

Associate Vice President for Research Innovation and Translation Jim Hotlaing will host a panel on venture investment and the research enterprise with Jack Boren, University of Utah Ventures managing partner; Jefferson Moss, Utah Innovation Fund managing director; Chandana Haque,  Altitude Lab director. 

This session will introduce the university community to resources that support and enable investment in companies that emerge from research at the U. The session will focus on the venture investment process, key conditions around investment and how best to prepare for engagement with the professional investment community.     

11:15-11:30 — Break

11:30-1 — Networking and Lunch

4:30-5 — Conversation with Startup of the Year 3Helix

University of Utah professors Michael Yu and Austin Johnson will join 3Helix CEO Mike Kirkness to discuss what it was like navigating the organizational and operational differences between academic research efforts and company development.

5-7 — Tech Tuesday

John Merrill and John Wirthlin will kick off Tech Tuesday with a 10-15 minute talk on the U's entrepreneurial network.
